Folklorico Filipino Canada is a patented not-for-profit organization based in the Greater Toronto Area. The group was established in 1974 by a group of new immigrants in the spirit of Canadian multiculturalism and has travelled across Canada, the United States, Mexico and Europe promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines through traditional dance. FFC prides itself on the community it fosters, establishing itself as an important avenue for young Filipino Canadians to discover and explore their heritage through safe artistic expression. Currently, the group focuses on continuing to offer programs and workshops while actively contributing to the movement of awareness and celebration of Filipino art and artists that is taking the GTA by storm.
The group performs a range of dances from across regions and eras of Philippine history. These are organized into the following suites: Barrio, Maria Clara, Indigenous Communities, Cordilleras and Mindanao. Dances may depict stories, epics and the everyday life of the diverse people and communities of the Philippines. FFC is also the caretaker of hundreds of authentic garments, costumes, memorabilia and props used in the telling of these stories, collected and curated over many years.
In 2024, we held our first strategic alignment session to define our values as a collective. Participants included the leadership team and the newly formed board of directors at the time. Core values are a central part of our culture as an organization and guide us to behave in an authentic, uniquely "Folklorico" way.
Passion, belonging,
empowerment, community
Commitment, respect,
teamwork
Impact, advocacy, growth, innovation, creativity
Inclusion, empathy, communication
